InfoPallas Contemporary Projects was set up to allow artists a space
to experiment and take risks with their practice. Pallas
Contemporary Projects is intrinsically connected with the artistic
process of production. Most of our exhibitions evolve in relation
to the idiosyncratic specifics of our gallery space and artists
benefit from an extended period of on-site work in which to test
and try out ideas ahead of their public exhibition; as a result of
this approach the artists have the possibility of producing works
that would not have been generated within their own production
context.
Pallas Contemporary Projects is a not-for-profit, publicly funded
gallery space, which focuses on developing exchanges between Irish
and international artists with a strong conceptual approach working in
different media.Pallas Contemporary Projects runs an internally curated programme
of exhibitions, augmented by invited curators and exhibition
exchanges. Pallas is supported by the Arts Council of Ireland
and Dublin City Council.
History
Pallas Studios, founded as an artist-run space in 1996 by Brian
Duggan and Mark Cullen. Originally located in a former factory
in Dublin's inner city, Pallas has played its part in creating
what is now a vibrant contemporary art scene in Ireland. In the
begining Pallas was created to provide studios and suportive
creative spaces for artists. Over the years Pallas also developed
a seperate exhibitons agency, with an independant curated policy,
and it has worked with well over 100 Irish and international
artists. Pallas was created by artists for artists.Pallas has established a reputation as a leading exponent of an
alternative art methodology and D.I.Y. work ethic resulting in
imaginative and challenging projects. Often without the access to
a natural exhibition space over the years, Pallas has provided
artists with an outlet for their work in as many as 37 curated
exhibitions in Dublin, Belfast, London and now Bangkok. In
venues ranging from the studios themselves (Pre Millennial
Tension), self-initiated outdoor projects (Precinct) and taking
over commercial spaces (Root, a space in Brick Lane, London).
In 2003 after several years in the thinking Pallas created a unique
project in Ireland, Pallas Heights. Taking over several semi-derelict
flats awaiting demolition by Dublin City council. Over three plus years
Pallas Heights hosted 19 exhibitions with over 30 young and emergent
Irish and international artists who have elevated their work into a
succesful international practice. Pallas Heights closed their steel
doors in 2007 and is now demolished. A book about the project was
published in 2007, suported by the Arts Council and Dublin City
Council, and full archive is availible from the website:
www.pallasheights.orgIn July 2005 in a invition by the City Gallery, The Hugh Lane, Pallas
created Offside - an exhibition at the municipal gallery on Parmel
square and two off-site locations, with over 25 artists from Brasil,
Germany,UK, South Africa and a very strong contingent from Ireland.

Pallas Studios and Pallas exhibitions are two seperate programs
within the same organisation. In January 2007 Pallas opened Pallas
Contemporary Projects, a new exhibition space situated in Dublin 7,
beside Stonybatter and Smithfield.

Volunteers and interns assist in daily gallery administration,
exhibition installation and with the realisation of special
projects as they arise. Their donation of time and expertise
means they are valued contributors to the running of the gallery,
while in turn we can offer highly valuable, practical,
non-traditional training that is next to impossible to acquire
through traditional classroom-oriented studies. If you are
interested in gaining gallery experience and would like to be added
to our file please contact gallery staff or email us your CV.Current Interns/Volunteers: Imelda Barnard, Laura Carey, Fiona
